Sally Matthews (Countess Almaviva), Vito Priante (Figaro), Audun Iversen (Count Almaviva), Lydia Teuscher (Susanna), Isabel Leonard (Cherubino), Andrew Shore (Bartolo), Ann Murray (Marcellina), Alan Oke (Don Basilio), Nicholas Folwell (Antonio), Colin Judson (Don Curzio), Sarah Shafer (Barbarina), Ellie Laugharne (First Bridesmaid) & Katie Bray (Second Bridesmaid) The Glyndebourne Chorus & Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Robin Ticciati (conductor) & Michael Grandage (director) Perhaps no opera is closely and affectionately associated with a single house as Le nozze di Figaro is with Glyndebourne. Effortlessly witty yet shot through with pain and sadness, this deeply ambivalent life in the day of masters and servants as they scheme and outwit one another was Glyndebourne’s opening production in 1934. Michael Grandage’s staging is the seventh, set in a louche Sixties ambience. Marshalled by the ‘ideal pacing’ of Robin Ticciati, a youthful cast of principals has ‘no weak link’ and ‘looks gorgeous’ (The Sunday Times) in a production that continues Glyndebourne’s rewarding history of engagement with Mozart’s and da Ponte’s ‘day of madness’. Glyndebourne's "signature" work, Le nozze di Figaro was the opening production when the theatre re-opened in 1994. The production is set the 1960s/70s. Extra features include: ‘The Greatest Opera Ever Written’ and ‘From page to stage’. Running time: 180 minutes Subtitles: EN/FR/DE/JP/KR Sound format: 2.0LPCM + 5.1(5.0) DTS |

A revival of Strehler's 'Marriage of Figaro' is always an event. In 2010, 37 years after its creation, it rose again in triumph at the Opera Bastille with a new generation of performers: Ludovic Tézier (Count Almaviva), Barbara Frittoli (Countess), Ekaterina Siurina (Susanna), Luca Pisaroni (Figaro) and Karine Deshayes (Cherubino). Conductor, Philippe Jordan directs the Orchestra and Chorus of the Paris Opera. Also in this bonus edition, there is an interview with Humbert Camerlo who has worked extensively with Giorgio Strehler and achieved this staging for the revival, which continues from September 15 to October 25, 2012 at the Opera Bastille for 14 special performances. “This Franco-Italian-Russian-Irish-English combo plays well together … this cast sings well too...Jordan's conducting sound large-scale and Romantic to our period ears...this new set plays as a comfortable, conventional theatrical experience with much art onstage from cast and scenery.” Gramophone Magazine, November 2012 “Unlike many Figaro productions these days, the physicality is never vulgar, and there are constant small touches that add character...[Pisaroni] displays the ideal bass-baritone instrument for this role, and his person is just as alive to every nuance as his singing...[Siurina] is marvellous when angry...no one on DVD has brought greater tonal shine and firmer technique to Susanna's music...[Frittoli] offers an absolutely complete characterization.” International Record Review, October 2012 | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Mozart: Le nozze di Figaro, K492Recorded 2011 Teatro Real, Madrid
Ludovic Tézier (Count Almaviva), Barbara Frittoli (Countess Almaviva), Luca Pisaroni (Figaro), Isabel Rey (Susanna), Marina Comparato (Cherubino) Orchestra of the Teatro Real Madrid, Jesús López Cobos (conductor) & Emilio Sagi (director) From the opening notes of the overture to the final curtain, Emilio Sagi’s classic, triumphant production fully brings to life all the elegant wit and theatricality of Mozart’s comic masterpiece. Leading baritone Ludovic Tézier shines as the lustful Count Almaviva who attempts to obtain the favours of Figaro’s bride-to-be, Susanna (Isabel Rey), while Luca Pisaroni gives a feisty performance as Figaro. Conductor Jesús López Cobos masterfully captures the enchanting score. A witty yet profound tale of love, betrayal, and forgiveness. “This is an attractive 'period' production, staged with bright, warm colours (all the more vivid in Blu-ray). The cast is good with some very fine singing...Barbara Frittoli as the Countess makes a beautiful sound, though her consonants are often underplayed...Emilio Sagi's direction clarifies the action...Jesus Cobos rarely misses a trick” BBC Music Magazine, July 2012 **** “this performance doesn't play by the same rules as its elegant Glyndebourne counterparts or its stylish Salzburg cousins. This is Mediterranean Mozart, bigger in sound, more emotionally extravagant in manner and somewhat less refined on nearly every level...[Pisaroni] performance here shows why his Figaro is getting around: he vividly projects the character's inner life, both vocally and theatrically, without any musical distortion.” Gramophone Magazine, July 2012 “Bravo' to Luca Pisaroni, whose Figaro has everything...Unfailingly sympathetic, Pisaroni has an utterly natural physicality - singer and role seemingly indivisible...Handsome, imposing and velvet-voiced, Ludovic Tezier acts with becoming dignity but insufficient authority...Jesus Lopez Cobos brings refreshing elegance to the performance...there's a good deal to enjoy here and Pisaroni's portrayal is essential viewing.” International Record Review, May 2012 | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

Sesto Bruscantini (Figaro), Graziella Sciutti (Susanna), Franco Calabrese (Count), Sena Jurinac (Countess), Risë Stevens (Cherubino), Monica Sinclair (Marcellina), Ian Wallace (Bartolo), Hugues Cuénod (Basilio), Daniel McCoshan (Curzio), Gwyn Griffiths (Antonio), Jeannette Sinclair (Barbarina) Vittorio Gui “Based on a 1955 Glyndebourne production, this Figaro has strong elements in Sciutti's Susanna, Jurinac's Countess and Cuénod's Basilio. Mellow conducting from Vittorio Gui.” BBC Music Magazine, September 2006 *** “This is an early stereo recording and it sounds very fine. Graziella Scuitti, who had not at the time sung the part at Glyndebourne itself, makes an effervescent Susanna. Gui's steady tempo enables Sesto Bruscantini to articulate Figaro's anti-women diatribe without the usual scramble...Sena Jurinac makes a believably youthful Countess.” Gramophone Magazine, Awards Issue 2011 | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |
