The highly acclaimed French cellist Anne Gastinel collaborates with virtuoso Argentine guitarist Pablo Márquez in a delightful release exploring the passion and soul of Spanish music. The follow up to her successful Schubert Sonatas and Bach Suites albums sees Gastinel select the pieces and arrange them for cello. The recording includes Spanish Classical music standards by Enrique Granados, Manuel de Falla and Gaspar Cassadó. Anne Gastinel records exclusively for Naïve, each new release is hailed by the international press and showered with awards. Achievements include: French Classical Music Awards 'Most Promising Young Talent 94' and 'Best Recording of the Year'; 'Fnac' Prize 1995 and 2000; Prix de l'Académie du Disque; RTL Classique d'Or 1996 and 1998; the “Choc” du Monde de la Musique, Télérama (1998, 2000, 2001, and 2002). Pablo Márquez’s recordings for ECM New Series and Kairos have received numerous awards, including the Grand Prix du Disque de l’Acedémie Charles Cros, the Amadeus Prize. “…French cellist Anne Gastinel and Argentinean guitarist Pablo Márquez… bring an urbane and sophisticated yet earthy and sensual quality to the songs and dances of Falla and Granados, as well as the solo guitar and solo cello music of the great Spanish cellist and friend of Andrés Segovia, Gaspar Cassadó. The opening Danza española No 1 from Falla's La vida breve is a revelation, Gastinel's spiccato-studded bowing showing fiery notes over Márquez's crisply articulated accompaniment; the Intermezzo from Granados's opera Goyescas and the same composer's tonadilla La maja dolorosa meanwhile highlights the intense beauty of Gastinel's cantabile playing.” Gramophone Magazine, March 2010 | | | (also available to download from $10.75) | Usually despatched in 3 - 4 working days. | | | Falla - Fuego Fatuo
You are no doubt familiar with his ballet “The Three-Cornered Hat”, but do you know Manuel de Falla’s “Fuego fatuo”. This comic opera is very rarely performed, but thanks to the symphonic adaptation that conductor Antoni Ros Marbà made in 1976 this is sure to change! Claves is pleased to present the first recording of this beautiful suite as performed by its arranger at the head of the Galicia Royal Philharmonic. The music is based completely on themes by Chopin, whose music de Falla revered and adored since childhood. It is preceded on this recording by the first and second symphonic suites taken from “The Three-Cornered Hat”. This recording marks the beginning of a long-term partnership with the orchestra from Galicia, one of the leading ensembles in Spain. | | | Usually despatched in 4 - 5 working days. |
