| | | Bruckner: Symphony No. 1 in C minorLinz Version 1866
This is the latest release in the very successful Janowski Bruckner cycle. The previous releases have received rave reviews. Rob Cowan wrote in the Gramophone (Symphony No.7); “This is yet another significant step towards what I am convinced will eventually turn out to be one of the finest recorded Bruckner cycles of the 21st century.” “Janowski's Scherzo is very high-energy, his finale, Beethovenian in its urgency, a fraught but ultimately victorious journey with excellent trumpets and timpani at the end...I like Janowski's Bruckner, its basic honesty and refusal to superimpose 'personality' over the composer's own...Janowski's consistency is ample reason to recommend his version.” Gramophone Magazine, July 2012 | | | (also available to download from $10.50) | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Bruckner: Symphony No. 1 in C minorFirst Version 1865/66 (“Linz” version)
This release brings the first and most important stage of Simone Young and the Hamburg Philharmonic’s Bruckner cycle to a close. Their aim has been to perform the symphonies of Bruckner in their original form. “…this disc (OC629 Symphony No.4) is undoubtedly a milestone in the appreciation of Bruckner’s most radical symphonic design.” International Record Review “Here is a Bruckner conductor who understands where the music is going and the contextual significance of detail. Young seems at one with Bruckner's sound world, how the music breathes and how to balance weighty brass without letting them overwhelm the rest of the orchestra...What I like most about this performance...is its mixture of drama and warmth, its sense of journeying through a sizeable, open landscape” Gramophone Magazine, Awards Issue 2011 | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

The young Abbado made a handful of recordings with the Vienna Philharmonic, of which this taught, sprightly reading of Beethoven's Eighth (just listen to the orchestra's reflexes in the finale) and the grand yet detailed vision of Bruckner's First made just one short-lived appearance on CD. Now they return, remastered and at super-budget price. | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Bruckner: Symphony No. 1 in C minorLinz version
Sinfonieorchester Aachen, Marcus Bosch Marcus Bosch completes his internationally acclaimed Bruckner cycle with the 1st Symphony. In the original version dating from 1868, the inherent character of Bruckner’s first symphonic work can be seen in its true colours, less religious pathos and a greater rhythmic energy and wealth of inventiveness than observed in the later works. “Marcus Bosch's First with the Aachen Symphony...returns us to the kind of weighty approach already well known from various feted Brucknerians of yore, though without recourse to mannerism....He cues a propulsive Scherzo and his finale is particularly imposing: the quasi-fugal writing from 7'2'' builds up a good head of steam and the closing pages are very exciting.” Gramophone Magazine, May 2012 “What a wonderful Symphony No. 1 this is...Marcus Bosch and his Aachen forces tap the dynamic of the work with a sure understanding of its power and beauty. Tempos are brisk but sufficiently flexible for the first movement's main march-theme to move purposefully without being rigid...this is distinctive and impressive early twenty-first-century Bruckner to put me on the track of previous releases.” International Record Review, May 2012 | | | (also available to download from $10.50) | Usually despatched in 4 - 5 working days. | | | Bruckner: Complete Symphonies Volume 2
The second volume of cpo’s Bruckner cycle with Mario Venzago features the so-called ‘Symphony No. 0’ and Symphony No. 1. Venzago has assigned each pair of symphonies a specific orchestra of very different size, culture, and tradition. In Finland’s Tapiola Sinfonietta Venzago has found a relatively small but first-class orchestra that is especially receptive to his efforts towards refinement and classical limpidity. “One of Venzago's virtues as a Bruckner interpreter is in the way he takes on aspects of period performance practice, moderating the use of vibrato rather than taking it a doctrinaire line against it, which means that both its employment and its absence have expressive effect....The luminous and revealing Venzago set might be described as Bruckner for non-Brucknerians” Gramophone Magazine, May 2012 “Some ideas from the period instrument movement are brought into play, but these only serve to highlight the conventionality of the "modern" performance conventions with which they rub shoulders. It's a fascinating combination though, and the results are deeply satisfying, even in these earlier works.” MusicWeb International, June 2012 | | | (also available to download from $21.00) | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days.
