| | | Palestrina - Music for Advent and Christmas
‘All the familiar qualities that serve to make Westminster unique among Britain’s cathedral choirs are in evidence here … the crucial added ingredient is singing of a passion and conviction that reminds us that this music is the choir’s lifeblood. This is unquestionably one of the glories of the year’ (Goldberg) “Vividly set against the cathedral acoustic, warm but clear, this performance of the Christmas music brings out better than most rival versions the exuberance of the cries of 'Noë' that dramatically punctuate the piece.” Penguin Guide, 2011 edition | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | A Choral Tapestry
International award-winning octet Voces8 has established itself as the foremost young British a cappella vocal group. Performing a repertoire ranging from Renaissance polyphony to unique jazz and pop arrangements, the group has been praised for stunning performance, exquisite singing and creating a sound that spans the entire range of vocal colour. ‘A Choral Tapestry’ explores the rich vocal timbres of sacred vocal music spanning five centuries. Interweaving genres create an ethereal sonic tapestry that centres around the haunting beauty of William Byrd's Mass for Four Voices. The programme includes anthems and motets from the English Chapel Royal, the Sistine Chapel in Rome and St. Thomas' Church, Leipzig “The award-winning group Voces 8 is well-known for its wide-ranging programmes and accomplished technical control...In Monteverdi's Cantate Dominum (this is his 1620 setting, not the 1615 one) the voices dance with incredible lightness, and the bell-like soprano voice of Andrea Haines provides the icing on the cake.” BBC Music Magazine, December 2012 **** | | | Usually despatched in 3 - 4 working days. |

| | | Ave Virgo SanctissimaA Garland for Our Lady
This CD includes some of the most familiar devotional texts such as Ave Maria, Salve Regina and the Magnificat as well as more rapturous works. The pieces are in four sections and each is introduced by a piece of chant. “This appealingly winsome choral Marian garland… is presented in four sections, each introduced by Gregorian chants, and spanning a vast swathe of sacred music, ranging from the 12th-century Hildegard of Bingen to Herbert Howells… Throughout the singing is perfectly poised and polished. Diction, phrasing, intonation and dynamic shading are all first rate.” Gramophone Magazine, December 2009 | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |

“It's doubtful if any recording made by the choir of King's College, Cambridge, in the fertile Willcocks era, will prove more enduring than this celebrated performance of Allegri's Miserere. Admittedly there are more authentic versions in the catalogue, authentic not only in that they use the original Latin words where Willcocks opts for an English translation, but also in the sense that they search for a style less obviously redolent of choral evensong and the Anglican tradition. At the farthest extreme from King's, other versions strip Allegri's score of its various 18th- and 19th-century accretions – a nice piece of musical archaeology which, ironically, reveals the utter plainness of the Miserere when denied its familiar jewels, and sounds like an imposter when dressed up in even more garish baubles. For many the richly communicative singing of King's remains the ideal, however far removed it may be from the orginal intentions of Allegri. The Miserere is accompanied here by some classic Palestrina performances, which are still as fresh as when they were recorded in 1964. Some tape hiss intrudes, but otherwise the sound is excellent. A fabulous disc.” Gramophone Classical Music Guide, 2010 | | | (Sorry, download not available in your country) | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |
