Recorded at Henry Wood Hall, London on 7 & 8 March 2012. The London Philharmonic Orchestra takes part in the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant on 3 June as part of the 1000 boat flotilla celebrating the Queen’s 60th anniversary. Its musicians will play works chosen for their association with British history and London landmarks, recorded here to capture the spirit of the occasion and to serve as a memento of a unique day. Highlights of the music include Percy Grainger’s Country Gardens, Jupiter from Gustav Holst’s The Planets, Thomas Arne’s Rule, Britannia!, the James Bond Theme, The Dam Busters by Eric Coates and two works by Elgar – Nimrod from Enigma Variations and Pomp & Circumstance March No. 1. The CD closes out with a performance of the National Anthem. “You don’t have to be ravingly patriotic to enjoy this, but it helps. When the Jubilee flotilla travels down the Thames on June 3, the London Philharmonic will be on board. This CD gives a foretaste of what to expect...The music is crisply delivered under David Parry.” The Times, 12th May 2012 | | | (also available to download from $10.50) | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Gilbert & Sullivan: The Mikado
Despite being, by common consent, the best of three post-war D’Oyly Carte Opera Company recordings of The Mikado, this sparkling early stereo performance with Donald Adams, Thomas Round and Peter Pratt has never been reissued by its parent label during the CD era. As it was not recorded with dialogue, the extra space has enabled Magdalen to include not only John Hollingsworth’s vivid version of Pineapple Poll but also, for the first time on CD, three overtures conducted con brio by the inimitable Arthur Fiedler. | | | Usually despatched in 4 - 5 working days. |

| | | Sullivan: Gilbert And Sullivan Overtures
“The first thing that sets this apart from other collections of Sullivan overtures is that – for the first time – it covers the entire Gilbert and Sullivan output. The only works that are missing are Thespis, Trial by Jury and Utopia Limited, none of which had overtures as such. The sensible addition of the overture to Cox and Box means that all the Sullivan comic operas likely to be of interest to the general collector are here. An even more intelligent feature is that they're presented in chronological order, so that one can chart the progression of Sullivan's comic opera style from the very French-sounding ending of Cox and Box and the equally French-sounding opening of TheSorcerer through to more distinctively Sullivanesque sounds of the later pieces. None of this would count for much if the performances weren't up to scratch. Happily they're models of their kind. Andrew Penny has an agreeably light touch, alternatively reflective and sparkling, and gets graceful phrasing from the Royal Ballet Sinfonia – ideal performers of light music. Nobody wanting a collection of Sullivan's comic opera overtures need look elsewhere.” Gramophone Classical Music Guide, 2010 | | | (also available to download from $6.00) | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days.
