Dominus Illuminatio Mea - The motto of the University of Oxford provides the inspiration for this album of a cappella choral classics performed by one of the greatest choirs in a city of great choirs. Includes a brand new arrangement of the famous Inspector Morse theme tune by Barrington Pheloung in this 25th Anniversary year of Oxford’s most famous fictional detective.

“[the repertoire] shows off the warm, immediate New College, Oxford sound in which individuals are encouraged to sing out rather than, as some collegiate choirs prefer, blend in. Some tonal unevenness aside, the results are vivid and committed. One for choral lovers, not purists.” The Observer, 1st April 2012

Voces 8

International award-winning octet Voces8 has established itself as the foremost young British a cappella vocal group. Performing a repertoire ranging from Renaissance polyphony to unique jazz and pop arrangements, the group has been praised for stunning performance, exquisite singing and creating a sound that spans the entire range of vocal colour. ‘A Choral Tapestry’ explores the rich vocal timbres of sacred vocal music spanning five centuries. Interweaving genres create an ethereal sonic tapestry that centres around the haunting beauty of William Byrd's Mass for Four Voices. The programme includes anthems and motets from the English Chapel Royal, the Sistine Chapel in Rome and St. Thomas' Church, Leipzig

“The award-winning group Voces 8 is well-known for its wide-ranging programmes and accomplished technical control...In Monteverdi's Cantate Dominum (this is his 1620 setting, not the 1615 one) the voices dance with incredible lightness, and the bell-like soprano voice of Andrea Haines provides the icing on the cake.” BBC Music Magazine, December 2012 ****

For many children, lullabies are their first intense contact with music and Hauptmann was able to persuade 52 of the best German singers whose first language is German to record one lullaby each, for no fee.

“The Reinberger and Rachmaninov pieces hold up extremely well in this illustrious company, even against the radiant heart of the recital, Victoria's four Marian motets. As the whole choir sings beautifully throughout, perhaps I should resist singling out the brilliance of the sopranos in the Sheppard and Lassus pieces.” BBC Music Magazine, November 2006 ****
