The title “Paribus Vocalis” is a reference to the fact that the works on this recording are composed
for voices of a similar range and can be performed by an ‘a capella’ male voice choir. It was
customary in Mediterranean churches for the singing to be performed by male choirs but with a
lack of trained boy singers, and women unable to participate in the mass, it was a necessity for the
music to be written for adult male voices. |
