Coward, N: World Weary

This disc brings together two early LPs of special interest to any admirers of Noel Coward: the very final recording sessions Coward undertook in Britain, accompanied by Wally Stott and his Orchestra and Norman Hackforth at the piano, and the first LP ever made by another artist of Coward song: a recital by the American singer Harry Noble. Noble's performances have been unheard for fifty years, but emerge as wonderfully understanding, witty and poignant. Restored to exemplary sound by Alan Bunting, and with superb notes by the Coward expert Dominic Vlasto, these recordings (not least Coward's very fine adieu to the British gramophone in some of his finest interpretations) re-enliven our interest in Coward.
