| | | String Quartets By Opera Composers
Ruth Ziesak (soprano) Leipziger Streichquartett “What could be a more seductive five minutes that Puccini’s Crisantemi (Chrysanthemums), a lovely crystellisation of his idiom…….Verdi’s four-movement E minor quartet is substantial, original and unforgettable.” Sunday Times, 4th May 2008 *** “Is an interesting collection of curiosities. The neglected piece of real interest here is Verdi's String Quartet in E minor… played with exemplary lucidity and feeling by the Leipzig Quartet… and immaculately recorded by MDG.” BBC Music Magazine, July 2008 **** “Respighi’s heavenly Il tramonto, a ‘lyric poem’ (based on Shelley) for soprano and string quartet, shifts the stylistic points of reference forward to Richard Strauss and early Schoenberg. Once again the Leipzig Quartet
sets the emotional temperature at precisely the right level, scoring interpretive points over most rivals by never overindulging the music’s natural opulence. Atmospheric, well-balanced sound too.” The Strad, August 2008 | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Puccini - Organ Works
Like his father and grand father before him, Puccini began his musical career as organist at S Pietro Somaldi in his home town of Lucca. These pieces arranged by the composer himself, are given passionate performances by Liuwe Tamminga on the original instrument played by the great opera maestro in his youth. “No original organ works here, but several of his early little pieces work well on organs at Lucca and Farneta that Puccini played in his youth. The marches (with added percussion) sound like fairground music.” BBC Music Magazine, July 2009 *** | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |
