Myra Hess) Prelude & Fugue in E flat major, BWV552 'St Anne' |
Works transcribed by Ferruccio Busoni, except where stated.
On his new CD, Bernd Glemser presents not only some of the most famous Bach arrangements by Ferruccio Busoni (the recording begins with the Chaconne in D Minor, which can practically be called a standard work of the virtuoso piano repertoire), but also seldom heard pieces by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Myra Hess and Wilhelm Kempff. “There’s a well structured Busoni Chaconne, the gentler Wilhelm Kempff Siciliano, Myra Hess’s ‘Jesu Joy’
and, less often heard, ‘Nun, freut ich…’ receives a dazzling Gould-like performance. Admirable touch,
ornamentation and voicing” Hi-Fi News, June 2008 | | | (also available to download from $10.50) | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. (Available now to download.) |

Konstantin Lifschitz (piano) For the first time complete on a modern concert grand the Musical Offering that Bach presented to King Frederick the Great of Prussia, together with three toccatas by Frescobaldi, a composer highly regarded by Bach and whose keyboard style is as genuinely pianistic as that of Chopin and Scriabin. In 1994, Russian pianist Konstantin Lifschitz burst onto the international scene with a recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations. The CD received a Grammy nomination and was praised as the most convincing Bach interpretation since Glenn Gould. Today, Lifschitz is celebrated for his musical sensibility and nuanced playing. “Lifschitz makes as strong a case as any for Bach on the grand piano.” Gramophone Magazine, May 2008 “The recording itself is first-class and the extensive programme notes are a model of their kind. For Lifschitz this has clearly been a labour of love, even something of a pilgrimage: these are staggering
performances which deserve the highest acclaim.” International Record Review, February 2008 | | | Usually despatched in 3 - 4 working days. |
