Jingle Wells offers an unusual and very festive collection of Christmas music from the choir of the famous thirteenth-century Cathedral of Wells. There are offerings both sacred and secular, old and new, to suit all Christmas pallets sung by the highly acclaimed Wells Cathedral Choir, hailed by Gramophone in December 2010 as the highest ranking choir with children in the world. “nice title; even nicer singing: the Wells Cathedral Choir, especially the excellent boy-girl treble line, enjoys itself in this selection of Christmas favourites. Their Jingle Bells is a real belter.” BBC Music Magazine, Christmas 2012 **** “everyone involved makes a good job of imagining snowy fields, glittery Christmas trees and holly-decked halls, and projecting that seasonal mixture of joyfulness and solemnity in their performances...Of its kind, it is hard to imagine a better Christmas CD. Profits from this bargain-priced disc will fund bursaries for Wells Cathedral choristers from poorer backgrounds.” MusicWeb International, November 2012 “Wells's burgeoning reputation as one of the best cathedral choirs in the country is further bolstered by the faultless tuning and blend of the strong and broad sound for which its boys are known” Gramophone Magazine, December 2012 “Carols don’t often have me chuckling out loud, but the ha-ha-has and he-he-hes — no ho-ho-hos, alas — as the choir are “laughing all the way” in Ralph Allwood’s hilarious arrangement of Jingle Bells is a blast of seasonal jollity.” Sunday Times, 23rd December 2012 |

| | | John Rutter: The Colours of Christmas
The Colours of Christmas is a collection of the greatest Christmas carols by the composer/conductor whose music has, for many, been so associated with Christmas. Featuring the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and The Bach Choir, with guest artists Over the Bridge and conducted by Rutter himself. The Colours of Christmas (track 2 from the album) is a newly composed carol by Rutter for this new album, and is testament to the very best of Rutter’s music. Newly orchestrated for this album are the carols Ding Dong Merrily On High and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing. All recordings on this album are brand new. “If you believe that Christmas music should have a warm, comfortable feel, then this CD will fit the bill perfectly...Rutter is equally skilled as an arranger and orchestrator, and the ingenious use of calypso rhythms in 'Ding dong! Merrily on high' is a delight...The Bach Choir and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra give crisp, enthusiastic performances. The choir have superb diction, blend and ensemble.” Gramophone Magazine, January 2012 “There’s something for everyone here” Sunday Times, 18th December 2011 “Nobody knows more about Christmas carols than John Rutter, and this collection oozes class. The opening "Ding Dong! Merrily on High" sets the scene: full of fluttering woodwind and horns dancing around tinkling percussion.” The Independent, 23rd December 2011 **** “Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a new piece from John Rutter, master of singable and ear-catching carols. This year’s is The Colours of Christmas, artlessly written and beautifully sung by the Bach Choir.” The Telegraph, 9th December 2011 “it’s hard not to enjoy the disc’s panache and the smiling skill of Rutter, the Bach Choir and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra as they paint the season red, white and green.” The Times, 23rd December 2011 **** | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

It is a musical treat as well as a visual one, recorded in both CD quality stereo and in 5.1 surround sound. The DVD also features a 10-minute bonus documentary feature, titled “Life as a King’s Singer”. “the sound and the performances are immaculate...It was recorded without an audience in LSO St Luke’s, so there’s a magical bloom to the sound. | | | Noël Nouvelet
Noel Nouvelet is a typically vibrant Vasari mix of traditional carols and exciting arrangements of familiar tunes, reflecting the choir’s ongoing desire to dress up the traditional in new clothes, to blend tradition with innovation. So, for example, alongside Kenneth Leighton's beautiful Coventry Carol, Naji Hakim’s exuberant version of Ding dong! Merrily on high and Morten Lauridsen’s powerful O magnum mysterium sits Ward Swingle’s arrangement of Mel Tormé's Christmas Song, Jonathan Rathbone's sumptuous arrangement of Silent Night and Nigel Short's equally lush adaptation of Away in a manger. The CD also includes several world premiere recordings, including Love came down at Christmas by Humphrey Clucas and Andrew Carter's firmly tongue-in-cheek showpiece arrangement of The Twelve Days of Christmas. “The singing certainly has the freshness and clarity that one associates with this fine choir and unique elements are provided by such tracks as Naji Hakim’s virtuosic arrangement of Ding Dong! Merrily on High...The stylistic breadth of the Vasari Singers is dazzlingly demonstrated on this recording...A very fine disc. Essential listening.” Church Music Quarterly, 23rd December 2008 “There are few traditional carols here, but my attention was fully held throughout – not least because of the superb singing...I was consistently impressed by the sheer quality of their artistry here – intonation, phrasing and enunciation are all of an exceptional standard...This is a fabulous CD, brilliantly recorded.” International Record Review, December 2007 “musical standards in terms of both the music and the performance are extremely high...performances [are] committed and sensitive without any of the self-conscious exactitude to which some choirs are prone, and a clear but atmospheric recording” MusicWeb International, 28th November 2007 “this disc, as well as housing five world premiere CD recordings, boasts a fine collection of arrangements and unusual interpretations of familiar numbers. The whole is conducted thoughtfully by Jeremy Backhouse, while Jeremy Filsell accompanies clearly and responsibly on the organ.” musicOHM, 13th November 2007 “the joy and vigour with which they sing and the innovativeness of these arrangement make this a welcome addition to any Christmas CD list.” Muso Magazine, December 2007 | | | Usually despatched in 8 - 10 working days. |
