Simon Standage, David Reichenberg & Lisa Beznosiuk The English Concert, Trevor Pinnock "As in their other Bach concerto recordings for DG Archiv, Pinnock and the English Concert prove the most persuasive practitioners of authentic performance, both vigorous and warm with consistently resilient rhythms. This collection of works transcribed from better-known originals features two wind soloists with tone warmer and less abrasive than many using baroque instruments. The recorded sound is exceptionally vivid in its sense of presence in its CD format" (Penguin Guide) |

| | | Telemann & Bach - Concertos for Oboe d’amore
Thomas Stacy (oboe d’amore) Toronto Chamber Orchestra, Kevin Mallon “Many listeners will recognize the distinctive sound of the oboe d’amore from having heard it in Bach’s B Minor Mass, St Matthew Passion, where it is used in pairs, or in Ravel’s Bolero. Hearing this instrument solo in these beautiful concerti may be a new experience for some. Telemann and Bach used the instrument brilliantly, requiring agile virtuosity in the fast movements and in the long lines of the heart-tugging slow movements, they made splendid show of the oboe d’amore’s uniquely plaintive timbre.” Thomas Stacy “Here we have the Toronto Camerata, under its founder-conductor Kevin Mallon, on world-class form, playing with an alertness, precision, sensitivity and stylistic awareness that would put many more celebrated bands to shame… highly recommended” The Strad on a previous Naxos recording. |
