Annette Dasch (soprano)

Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie, David Syrus

The story of the infidel Saracen princess Armida, who falls in love with the Christian knight Rinaldo, has been a frequent source of inspiration for opera composers. For her début CD on the Sony Classical label, Berlin-born soprano Annette Dasch has selected Armida arias from four different operas, plus a cantata

“Annette Dasch copes admirably with the high tessitura of "Ah! Ti sento", and there is some exciting coloratura in the Rinaldo aria and in "Se pietade avete" from Haydn's last opera for Eszterháza. David Syrus and the orchestra are first-rate: indeed, the Gluck Chaconne and the Jommelli Sinfonia are, so to speak, worth hearing in their own right.” Gramophone Magazine, December 2007

“Bell ... is, quite simply, one of the most beautiful things you will ever hear” The Guardian

“Emma Bell gets better and better. This sparkling recording confirms her reputation as one of the most exciting of the younger generation of Handelians. It's the suppleness of the voice that excites, with trills that really trill and scales that effortlessly climb the heights above the stave. Richard Egarr directs a Scottish Chamber Orchestra on its very best behaviour with fine string playing throughout and a magnificently angry trumpet obbligato in the aria from Amadigi.” BBC Music Magazine, October 2005

“Here is a voice of glowing quality - bright yet creamy in texture, weighty yet pure - which is matched by fine musical imagination and a masterly control of technique. …Bell's ability in lyrical arias to float the most exposed high notes with no hint of an upward slide makes for ravishing results.” Gramophone Magazine, December 2005

Edda Moser (soprano)

Edda Moser and EMI-Electrola – a special chapter in the history of recorded music. Two passions mark this longstanding cooperation: a love of opera – especially of Mozart–, and of the intimate art of Lieder singing. Talking to Thomas Voigt and Holger Wemhoff, Edda Moser recalls these “moments of musical bliss” in the recording studio and on the stage. With the two interviews, Edda Moser’s tribute to Mozart and the CD premières of five Lieder albums plus her aria recital, this edition paints a many-faceted and personal portrait of the great soprano.
