| | | Beethoven - Complete Works for Solo Piano Volume 6
“…stunning performances that are technically breathtaking, stylistically astute, emotionally intense and musically alive in every moment. What is more, they make the most compelling case on disc for period instruments in this repertoire.” Gramophone Magazine, December 2008 “…Brautigam… tempos in the outer movements are tremendously fast, and for the intervening episodes of the Waldstein's ronda finale, with their dizzying cascades of semiquaver triplets, he accelerates still further.” BBC Music Magazine, December 2008 *** | | | (also available to download from $10.50) | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. Alexander Paley, who was born in Moldavia in 1956, brings to these varied works a calm and even-tempered approach. Although there are certainly virtuoso episodes, Paley does not use this opportunity to show off. These are inner-directed and contemplative performances. The centerpiece of this recital is Brahms' Paganini Variations Op. 35. Based upon the famous A Minor Caprice, Brahms' kaleidoscopic explorations are revealed with intimacy and emotion in Paley's interpretation. An added bonus is the extremely popular encore piece, David and Goliath by Hans Christian Bartel. This recording is valuable and enjoyable and is recommended warmly. | |

| | | Beethoven - The Piano Sonatas (Volume 5)
Live recording from Zurich’s Town Hall, produced by Manfred Eicher “The crowning glory in this fifth volume of András Schiff's resonantly recorded, chronological survey of the Beethoven sonatas is his urgently propelled Waldstein Sonata. Schiff clearly views this work as the piano equivalent to the Eroica Symphony, and uses maximum dynamic and textural contrast to emphasis its almost orchestral nature. ” BBC Music Magazine, November 2007 **** “András Schiff leads the pack of top pianists recording Beethoven sonatas. His touch with these middle-period works is revelatory…” The Independent | | | Usually despatched in 4 - 5 working days. |
