These sonatas belong to the lesser known and less often performed violin sonatas of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Florian Deuter is one of the most sought-after baroque violinists of his generation. He has served as concertmaster and violinist of the Amsterdam Baroque Orchester (Ton Koopman), The Gabrieli Consort (Paul McCreesh), La Chapelle Royale/Collegium Vocale (Philippe Herreweghe). At the behest of Reinhard Goebel, he served as first violin and concertmaster of Musica Antiqua Köln for six years and with this group toured the world and recorded extensively for Deutsche Grammophon.He has recently recorded the sonatas of J. S. Bach with harpsichordist Christian Rieger. Since April 2000 Deuter has been the concertmaster of the Musiciens du Louvre (Marc Minkowski). and in 2003 he founded the chamber music group Harmonie Universelle. This is Evgeny Sviridov’s debut CD on the GENUIN label. This Russian violinist is captivated by Baroque music and in 2010 he won the Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig. This recital includes Biber’s eighth sonata, a real showpiece, as it was composed for two violins, but can be played on one, as Sviridov skilfully demonstrates.

The Palladian Ensemble (originally Rachel Podger, Pamela Thorby, Joanna Levine and William Carter) was a double-award winning group even before they released their first album, and made their Wigmore Hall debut in 1993. Gamba player Susanne Heinrich and the prize-winning violinist Rodolfo Richter replaced Joanna Levine and Rachel Podger, but the Palladian Ensemble continued to tour extensively throughout the UK enjoying consistent popularity with audiences and critics.

The Palladian Ensemble were five times winners of the prestigious Diapason d'Or Award, (1993, 1994, 1998, 1999 and 2000) and twice had albums named Gramophone "Editor's Choice".
