β€œIn his day, Howard Hanson was better known as a conductor, but he was also one of his country's most powerfully expressive composers. So it's good to see Naxos's revealing American Classics series focus on early works - the best known of which is the muscular Symphony No. 1, in which the figure of Sibelius is never far away. Fine performances and robust sound: Volume 2 is eagerly awaited.” The Independent
