| | | Homage to VeniceItalian Baroque Concertos
Celebrating the enormous contribution Italian composers made to the development of the Concerti as a music form, this disc presents a number of concerti seldom performed before. Although the French ‘hautboy’ was well known throughout Europe in 1670, it did not become well known as an ’oboe’ in Italy until 1700 and was introduced to Vivaldi in the Ospedale della Pieta where one of the girls in the orchestra played it. The composers on this CD played a significant historical and stylistic role in the concerti evolution. “A distinctive feature of its (Il Gardelino) playing lies in the clear, conversational punctuation of phrases which are allowed to breathe coherently and unhurriedly. It is a detail that makes all the difference to the
music, enlivening it at every turn with communicative, intelligible dialogue to which the listener is skillfully and charmingly drawn….performances are first-rate and the programme full of rewarding contrasts, juxtapositions
and other assorted delights. Well worth seeking out.” International Record Review, July/August 2008 | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |
