| | | Mozart Gala from SalzburgRecorded at Felsenreitschule Salzburg, Austria
Directed by Brian Large. The highly acclaimed gala concert celebrating the 2006 Mozart anniversary from the Salzburg Festival featuring some of the world´s top singers, including exclusive DG artists Anna Netrebko, Magdalena Kozena, Patricia Petibon and Rene Pape with the Wiener Philharmoniker under Daniel Hardingat last on DVD! Held in the Felsenreitschule on 30 July 2006 at the start of the Salzburg Festival, the gala performance represents the full spectrum of the Mozart festivities through a selection of arias and orchestral works Celebrated soprano Anna Netrebko lives up to her reputation as a fiery dramatic diva with her passionate rendition of Elettra's aria D'Oreste, d¡'Aiace from Idomeneo, while Magdalena Kozena, who was acclaimed for her performance as Idamante in the festival's production of the opera, sings the duet S'io non moro a questi accenti with Ekaterina Siurina as Ilia Other highlights include renowned baritone Thomas Hampson Rivolgete a lui lo sguardo from Cosi fan tutte and Rene Pape's spirited rendition of Leporello's famous catalogue aria from Don Giovanni As well as providing superb accompaniments, the Wiener Philharmoniker makes a contribution of its own to the programme with the overtures to Don Giovanni and Idomeneo, and concluding the performance with the Prague Symphony, K. 504 Filmed in HD, released in 16:9 widescreen; audio in PCM and 5.1 DTS Surround Sound First DVD release “The orchestral playing is impeccably groomed, opening with a fast and fiery account of the Don Giovanni overture followed later by a dynamic Idomeneo overture and finishing with an accomplished Prague Symphony. The vocal contributions are less even and, except in the case of the two Russian artists, marred by some ugly face pulling to produce particular vowels. The Russians sing magnificently too, Anna Netrebko nearly bringing the house down with Elettra's 'fury' aria from Idomeneo and Ekaterina Siurina scoring as Ilia with her fresh tone and simplicity of manner.” BBC Music Magazine, February 2009 *** | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

Mojca Erdmann’s Deutsche Grammophon recording debut combines a variety of Mozart’s best beloved arias and works by his contemporaries such as J.C. Bach, Holzbauer, and Paisiello. The album also features Andrea Marcon and the outstanding period instrumentalists of La Cetra Baroque Orchestra, Basle. Plans in 2011 include her debut at New York’s Metropolitan Opera as Zerlina in a new Don Giovanni. “Agile, clean, bright: Mojca Erdmann’s soprano voice was made for Mozart...it’s easy to enjoy her natural ease and golden glow, backed by high-class playing from Andrea Marcon and the Basel period orchestra, La Cetra. The booklet has plenty of starstruck pictures.” The Times, 30th April 2011 **** “The two arias from Zaide show off Erdmann's strengths: the outer sections of 'Tiger!' are full of fire, and 'Ruhe sanft' is delicate without being merely pretty...Erdmann's spirited, impeccably tuned soprano is a delight to hear, and this unhackneyed recital is richly enjoyable.” Gramophone Magazine, July 2011 “Erdmann clearly has a lot going for her in terms of sheer musicianship. A notably well-schooled artist, she shapes phrases (in 'Ruhe sanft', to name one example) with a precision that is almost clinical...Marcon and La Cetra, his brilliant period-instrument orchestra, support the soprano with considerable sensitivity.” International Record Review, July 2011 “Erdmann is certainly an interpreter of major gifts, most obvious in the more regular Mozart assignments, which all possess dramatic individuality as well as musical and vocal distinction...But contributing just as much to the disc's success is the orchestral playing under Andrea Marcon. The Basel-based period-instrument ensemble maximises the characterful elements of the writing throughout.” BBC Music Magazine, July 2011 **** | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |

While Kiri Te Kanawa was still preparing for that career-defining debut as the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro, she made her first Mozart disc under Colin Davis: a collection of sacred music, including the Solemn Vespers, KV 339, with its serene setting of ‘Laudate Dominum’, and Exsultate, jubilate. The Countess became the singer’s calling-card, and she repeated the role immediately in San Francisco and at Glyndebourne. The thwarted Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni followed, again under Davis at Covent Garden, before Kiri took her Countess to the Met in New York in February 1976, and sang her first Fiordiligi in Paris, in a production by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle. The Paris Opera was also the location of Kiri’s debut as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte in 1977. Her leap into superstardom came when she sang at the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana in July 1981. The previous month she had committed her Countess to disc in a classic recording for Decca under Georg Solti. This collection brings together for the first time on disc, Dame Kiri’s complete Mozart recital discs for Decca (with György Fischer) and Philips (with Sir Colin Davis and Jeffrey Tate). Included too are two arias from her celebrated recording of Le nozze di Figaro with Sir Georg Solti, an aria from her sublime recording of Così fan tutte with James Levine (for Deutsche Grammophon) as well as sacred arias, and sacred music conducted by Neville Marriner and Colin Davis. “Te Kanawa's special relationship with Mozart is documented alongside distinguished colleagues. Tone is apt; more textual focus is required.” BBC Music Magazine, July 2012 **** | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

Leontyne Price is simply one of the best sopranos of all time. Hailed as the “Stradivarius of singers” she had a unique, unmistakable and unforgettable voice which graced the stage of the Met an astonishing 164 times throughout her career. The Leontyne Price catalogue is divided into two “Complete Collections”; Song and Spiritual Albums and Operatic Recital Albums. These collections are housed in original LP design cardboard slipcases and presented in a hardback boxset. “her core stage repertoire was restricted to a dozen or so roles...These 14 recital albums extend her range from Purcell’s Dido to Menotti’s Amelia: her Handel and Mozart may have dated stylistically, but few Countess Almavivas or Donna Annas have sounded more temperamental and voluptuous...All in all, a banquet for opera-lovers.” Sunday Times, 8th January 2012 | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |
