| | | The Bartók Album
After her critically acclaimed recordings of Mozart (complete sonatas), Schumann and Schubert, Hungarian-born Klára Würtz turns to her compatriot Béla Bartók, presenting a representative selection of his piano works. She plays a powerful, rhythmically vital yet never 'pounding’ Sonata, a colourful and vibrant Suite Op. 14, an uncompromising 'Allegro Barbaro' and a selection of pieces from 'Mikrokosmos' and 'Gyermekeknek' (For Children). In these latter pieces one feels her innate feeling for the (musical) language of the Hungarian children’s songs and nursery rhymes. Klára Würtz studied at the Liszt Ferenc Academy in Budapest, imbibing the rich musical culture and knowledge of such teachers as György Kurtág, Ferenc Rados and Zoltán Kocsis. | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |

Nicolas Bringuier (piano) Béla Bartók's piano works often have a subordinate role as it is difficult to place them stylistically, and because they present an enormous technical challenge. This programme, performed by the young French pianist Nicholas Bringuier, presents works by Bartók written between 1909 and 1926. It takes both a courageous and superior interpreter to do justice to these works. “Bringuier's brightly buoyed performances are bang on the nail whereas his subtle sense of colour works well in the Four Dirges… more elastic, less relentless Bartók than has become the norm in recent years…” Gramophone Magazine, November 2009 | | | Usually despatched in 3 - 4 working days. |

| | | Sonatas and PreludesPiano works
Pianist Diane Walsh is heard in four masterpieces from the first half of the twentieth century. This newly re-mastered release was originally recorded in 1990 for Music and Arts. From the moment that Vladimir Horowitz premiered Samuel Barber's "Sonata", Op. 26, in Havana, December 1949, Barber's brilliant and poetic score has been regarded as a piano classic. Composed and dedicated to pianist Dinu Lipatti, Frank Martin's "8 Preludes" offer a wide range of moods and textures. Prokofiev's "Sonata No. 2", the earliest work in this collection, was composed in 1912. Regarded then as ‘ultra-modern', this piece's driving rhythms and virtuosity were a perfect vehicle for the young composer/pianist, who premiered the sonata in 1914, in St. Petersburg. Bartók also premiered his own "Sonata", in Budapest, December, 1926. The work's motoric rhythms and violent outbursts are given a performance of great intensity by Diane Walsh. Diane Walsh's numerous awards over a 35-year international career include the top prizes at the Munich International Piano Competition and the Salzburg International Mozart Competition. | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |
