When he was eight years old Mozart wrote a series of duo sonatas sanctioned for violin or fl ute and keyboard. Written in London, they were dedicated to Queen Charlotte. The sonatas performed on this disc were written much later for violin but, using that earlier precedent, have been transcribed for fl ute by one of the world’s greatest exponents of the instrument, Patrick Gallois. Memorably tuneful, they represent different stages of Mozart’s development and are beautifully suited to their new guise. |

| | | Mozart: Duo Sonatas Volume 3
Catherine Mackintosh and Geoffrey Govier (Duo Amadè) Catherine Mackintosh and Geoffrey Govier formed Duo Amadè in order to perform the charming and intimate works for keyboard and violin by Mozart in concert, often with readings from his family letters. In 2006 Duo Amadè performed the whole cycle at the Royal College of Music. Catherine Mackintosh in particular has long been recognised as a pioneering early music spirit and in recording the complete cycle of duo sonatas is fulfilling the ambition of a lifetime. The First Volume (CHAN0755) of Duo Sonatas was released in late 2008, being made an ‘Editor’s Choice’ by Gramophone in recognition of its musicality and ‘historically informed performance’. The Second Volume (CHAN0764) was a ‘Critics’ Choice’ in the December 2009 issue of the same magazine, Duncan Druce writing: ‘I’ve been enjoying the infectiously enthusiastic music-making on Duo Amadè’s second volume of Mozart sonatas. In these wonderful works, Geoffrey Govier and Catherine Mackintosh give the instrumental dialogue the wit and verve of a spirited operatic exchange.’ In this third collection of sonatas, featuring KV 376, KV 378, and KV 526, Duo Amadè once again offers performances of similar spirit and style. Geoffrey Govier plays a fortepiano made by Christopher Clarke in Cluny, after an instrument by Anton Walter, while Catherine Mackintosh plays a violin by Giovanni Grancino, dating from 1703. These instruments bring a lightness and freshness of articulation to these delightful works, entirely in keeping with the spirit of enlightenment in which the sonatas were written. “Violinist Catherine Mackintosh and fortepianist Geoffrey Govier, playing on copies of instruments from Mozart’s time, have 18th century performing practice down pat: though historically-informed, theirs is natural and engaging music-making...Duo Amadè bring a wealth of insight to their stylish and well-recorded performances, making this release eminently recommendable.” Graham Rogers, bbc.co.uk, 16th September 2010 “Here's Mozart interpretation in the raw, not overlaid with effusive graciousness, neither apologetically insipid nor crude, but very expressive on its own terms. Listen and ponder. These are committed performances throughout.” Gramophone Magazine, Awards Issue 2010 | | | (also available to download from $10.50) | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Mozart: Music for the Oboe
Alexeï Ogrintchouk (oboe & direction) Alexei Ogrintchouk performs three pillars of the oboe repertoire with the support of the renowned Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra and the company of three highly respected young string players in the quartet. As principal oboist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Alexei Ogrintchouk is an international soloist in his own right. His performances of J.S. Bach’s oboe concertos was judged to be ‘as astonishing as it is successful’ on the web site klassik-heute.de, with a sound described as ‘generous, rounded, warm and velvety’ in Classica. To round off the programme Alexei has called on his father, the pianist Leonid Ogrintchouk, and together the two perform a transcription of the Violin Sonata in B flat major, K 378, composed during the same period as the two other works on this disc. |

“The Haydn is wonderful: mercurial, sharply intelligent, brim-full of energy. However the Mozart is a bit staid, while the Brahms outer movements are surely too fast. A very mixed bag.” BBC Music Magazine, March 2008 ***** | | | Usually despatched in 8 - 10 working days. |

| | | Mozart - Complete Sonatas for Keyboard & Violin, Volume 1
This is a voyage of discovery for me,' says Rachel Podger as she moves on from award-winning Bach and Vivaldi to embark on a complete cycle of Mozart's violin sonatas. This first disc in the series offers four from the early, middle and late periods - C major KV6, B flat major KV378, G major KV379 and F major KV547 - in which Podger's youth and Baroque experience combine to bring a charm and freshness of approach which suit these delightful pieces perfectly. With sympathetic support from the equally youthful Gary Cooper, this promises to be a cycle well worth following. Anthony Holden, Sunday November 21, 2004 The Observer “This is Volume 1 of a complete set, and the series certainly gets off to a cracking start. The recording gives the fortepiano (an Adlam copy of a 1795 Anton Walther instrument) a full, rich, sound; the balance with the violin is excellent – it's as though we're listening in a small but resonant room. The noble introductory Adagio of K379 sounds wonderfully colourful, and is followed by an unusually passionate, intense performance of the Sonata's G minor Allegro. It's taken at a faster tempo than usual, and we're persuaded to think of it as a worthy forerunner of the great G minor works to come. It's the CD's high point, perhaps, but the first two movements of K378 run it close; the opening Allegro moderato is spacious, flexible and expressive, and the second movement warm and sensuous. Gary Cooper plays with considerable freedom, often spreading chords to soften their impact or for extra expressiveness, and ornamenting repeated passages most imaginatively. Rachel Podger doesn't generally ornament her part; her accompaniments are unforced and flow easily, and she enjoys taking the lead, playing boldly yet with sensitivity. Mozart's first sonata, K6, begun when he was six, is a lively piece, but you'd never guess the composer. And K547, intended as an educational piece, has nothing of the expressive depth of the other late sonatas. But Cooper and Podger's playing remains suited to the music's character, unaffectedly bringing out its charm and vitality.” Gramophone Classical Music Guide, 2010 “A beautifully handled recording with a sense of intimacy so appropriate to the music. Here are players working as a real partnership, bouncing ideas off each other and having fun in the experience of making music.” Gramophone Magazine, Awards Issue 2005 | | | Usually despatched in 4 - 5 working days. |
