Simone Young has had a huge impact on the Hamburg Philharmonic and the Hamburg State Opera, since starting as their Chief Conductor in 2005.

This is the sixth release in her survey of Bruckner’s Symphonic works, a series which has been met with great critical acclaim.

The second volume of cpo’s Bruckner cycle with Mario Venzago features the so-called ‘Symphony No. 0’ and Symphony No. 1. Venzago has assigned each pair of symphonies a specific orchestra of very different size, culture, and tradition. In Finland’s Tapiola Sinfonietta Venzago has found a relatively small but first-class orchestra that is especially receptive to his efforts towards refinement and classical limpidity.

The set also includes the Te Deum, with powerful soloists, the rarely-heard Helgoland for men’s chorus and orchestra, and Psalm 150 for soprano chorus and orchestra.

In a spectacular concert cycle from January to March 1999, the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks under the direction of Lorin Maazel played the complete symphonies of Bruckner in Munich’s Philharmonie in the Gasteig. Maazel had at his disposal an ensemble with a long, impressive Bruckner tradition dating back to Eugen Jochum. The founding father and first Chief Conductor of the orchestra ranks as one of the most significant Bruckner conductors in the interpretive history of these works.

The chronological compactness of the recording process, which guaranteed a unified artistic signature is the outstanding feature of this compete recording vis-à-vis many of the versions from the competition.
