Standard Version “Ms. Dessay treats opera like a form of theatre in which acting and singing are one” The Times “This selection of scenes and arias, all very familiar items, is distinguished by the imaginative accompaniments under Evelino Pidò. …here we have one of the great opera personalities of our time - it's a lovely voice, used with a formidable technique.” Gramophone Magazine, March 2008 “Violetta's aria at the end of Act I of La traviata demands the impossible. A lyric voice for 'Ah forse è lui' and then weight and depth and cascading coloratura in 'Sempre libera'. Natalie Dessay has it all… The Mad Scenes from I puritani and Lucia di Lammermoor are just as impressive.” BBC Music Magazine, February 2008 ***** BBC Music Magazine

| | | Bel Canto Arias
Recorded in her 59th year, this was one of Sutherland's last studio recordings. The notes are by Richard Bonynge, the indefatigable mind behind the research of much of this repertoire. “How good, for instance, that Sutherland should still be exploring. Everything here is new to her discography, and the solo from Il castello di Kenilworth will be new to most of her listeners … The fine tragic sweep of the violins in the Attila solo, the plaintive elegance of Bellini's cantilena, the simple good humour of Betly's 'tralla las' – none of these is too familiar to be welcome, and in the last of them Sutherland's gaiety is vividly personal and expert in timing. Of her French arias the Africaine is probably most successful, with its emotions imaginatively caught” Gramophone Magazine | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Berliner Philharmoniker: Italian NightLive Recording from The Waldbühne Berlin, 1996
As one of the most beautiful open-air venues in Europe, the Berlin Waldbühne draws more than twenty thousand people per year to enjoy popular classical music performed by the world-renowned Berlin Philharmonic under the beguiling canopy of a summer night’s sky. While some of the most famous conductors have already taken the podium at these concerts, repeated performances have most notably been given by the Italian maestro Claudio Abbado. The programme of Abbado’s 1996 “Italian Night” at the Waldbühne focused on highlights from operas by the Italian composers Giuseppe Verdi, Gioacchino Rossini and the master of bel canto – Vincenzo Bellini. Claudio Abbado and the Berlin Philharmonic were once again accompanied by outstanding luminaries from the international opera scene: the Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu, whose exquisite good looks are surpassed only by the sublime beauty of her voice, the great Russian tenor Sergej Larin and the Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel, one of the most soughtafter opera and oratorio singers in the world.
