A Corte Musical: Mercedes Hernandez, Natacha Ducret (sopranos), Audrey Burgener (alto), Felix Rienth (tenor) & Rogério Gonçalves (percussions, dulcian & direction) Francesc Valls (1665-1747) was a major figure among Catalan composers of the Baroque and made an important contribution to the theoretical thinking of his day. He left an extensive output of works; at least 9 masses, 9 Magnificats, a set of litanies and numerous motets, which usually involve double chorus, continuo and orchestral parts. He also left a sizeable number of villancicos and other popular pieces. This CD, previously available as SY5215 on the Symphonia label, from 2004, includes seven “tonos divinos” (sacred popular songs). | | | (also available to download from $10.50) | Usually despatched in 3 - 4 working days. A Corte Musical, Rogério Gonçalves world premiere recordings "This CD includes seven tonos by Valls, including that used for the title…Their religious texts are beautifully sung, with lively accompaniment by two violins, theorbos, guitars and occasional percussion…these are highly convincing performances of some very rewarding music. An excellent recording opening up an unjustly neglected repertoire.” Noel O’Regan, Early Music Review | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |
