Palestrina: Vestiva i colli

Compiled during the last third of the 16th C and completed in 1585-1586, the Codex Tarasconi was copied in Parma, probably for use at the court of the Duke of Parma. Performed on traditional instruments, the I Fedeli ensemble are specialists in music from the 16th and 17th centuries.

This gem from the early days of digital recording is heard here in a new guise. These musicians never fail to fascinate with their vibrant tempi and irresistible tonal presence. The performances include works by Fontana, Frescobaldi, Turini and Merula and were highly praised when they were first released; “Exemplary: just as upbeat music should be, bright, transparent and airy.” (FAZ)
