Recording of the Week Composer Works lists now published
Over recent months one of the improvements on the website that we have been working on is the implementation of composer works lists. The idea being that when you click on Composers from the menu on the left and then go through to a composer page (eg. Mahler), in addition to a short biography, picture and details of new releases you also get a list of Mahler’s major works and a link to a full list of all his works.
When you click on one of these works you get full details of all the available recordings of that work, with any particular recommendations such as Building a Library, Penguin Rosettes, Gramophone Awards, etc... at the top. Still using Mahler as our example scroll down to Symphony No. 2 in C minor 'Resurrection' and you’ll find Rattle’s legendary CBSO recording as the first link followed by the various other recommendations for that work, and then five pages detailing all the available recordings.
This format is the same for every composer and every work, however large or small, so whatever you are looking for you should be able to easily find both the available recordings of the work and any particular recommendations. We hope you’ll find this improvement useful - I believe we are the only place on the internet that you’ll find this level of browsing combined with recommendations. As always do fire any questions or comments at me.
- oh, and enjoy the new SOMM promotion. I'm quite excited about it, as in addition to the large Beecham selection there are some really significant recordings in here - Mark Bebbington is currently doing wonders for British piano music, while Jennifer Bate has recently cast Mendelssohn’s output in a whole new light.
