New Release Round-up, New Release Round-up - 3rd November 2017

New Releases - 3rd November 2017 Schubert features prominently on today's menu, with Daniil Trifonov and Anne-Sophie Mutter joining forces with three of Mutter's protégés for the Trout Quintet and Laurence Equilbey's choir and orchestra presenting a gorgeous programme of favourite lieder in orchestral arrangements by great composers. There are also several world premiere recordings, and some hair-raising Stravinsky from Vasily Petrenko and the Liverpool Philharmonic.

Albrecht Mayer (oboe), I Musici Di Roma

The principal oboist of the Berlin Philharmonic has mined archives across Europe to uncover forgotten treasures of the Italian baroque and early Classical periods: Vivaldi’s well-known Concerto RV450 sits alongside rarities by Giuseppe Sammartini, Domenico Elmi and Giovanni Ristori.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

A star violinist and pianist are joined by three emerging artists from the Mutter Foundation for this live recording of the best-loved of all piano quintets, captured at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden this summer. Programme also includes the Notturno D897 and arrangements of Ständchen and Ave Maria.

Wiebke Lehmkuhl (soprano) & Stanislas de Barbeyra (tenor), Insula orchestra & Accentus, Laurence Equilbey

Available Formats: MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra & Chorus, Vasily Petrenko

A vernal triptych from Petrenko and his Liverpool forces, coupling the Rite with Debussy’s Printemps and Rachmaninov’s little-known Spring Cantata; the Liverpool Echo praised their live performance of the Stravinsky for its ‘menacing vision’ and ‘thrumming, fearsome energy’.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Martin Fröst (clarinet), Lucas Debargue (piano), Janine Jansen (violin), Torlief Thedeen (cello)

This recording of Messiaen’s apocalyptic Quartet has a special personal significance for two of these musicians: Martin Fröst and Janine Jansen first met when performing the work together with Torlief Thedeen sixteen years ago; Sony’s new star pianist Lucas Debargue joins them.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Johanna Rose (viola da gamba), Javier Núñez (harpsichord)

The German viola da gamba player presents three virtuosic sonatas which CPE Bach wrote whilst in the employ of Frederick the Great; harpsichordist Javier Núñez completes the programme with the Keyboard Sonata in A minor, Wq. 50/3 (H138).

Philippe Jaroussky (countertenor), Davóne Tines (baritone), Dutch National Opera, André De Ridder (conductor) & Peter Sellars (stage director)

Jaroussky portrays an angel and a ghost in this Japanese-influenced double-bill by the Finnish composer, caught here at its world premiere at the Dutch National Opera last year; the Financial Times praised both the 'sensual and evocative' score and ‘consummate sincerity and solid stagecraft’ of Sellars’s production.
