Recording of the Week  2008 - A great year for DVDs

2008 has been a bumper year for DVD Videos with over 400 new titles released to the market. That is an increase in the size of the overall DVD catalogue of about 20%. And while the future may lie in a new format called Blu-ray (more on that at some point next year) the present is most definitely DVDs. In the last few months we’ve seen some of the strongest titles I can remember and you’ll be pleased to hear that we’ve managed to put many of them, along with some fantastic catalogue items, into our current 'Great DVDs Special Offer'.

As almost every significant opera has at least two or three DVD versions already, new DVDs seem to understandably be focussing more on documentaries and concerts rather than operas and ballets, and often feature big name artists. Twentieth Century composers also seem to be increasingly profiled and generally give you a much better understanding of what the composer was trying to achieve in their music than you could ever get from reading a book.

As December is a quiet month for CD releases I’ve given over the normal new release section below to my pick of the autumn DVD releases all currently at very special prices. You can browse full details of our Great DVDs Special Offer, which includes over 350 titles here.

Talking of special offers I should mention that our Box Set Special Offer ends tomorrow (December 16th). It has been our most successful promotion ever with many of you, I expect with Christmas in mind, taking advantage of the big discounts on offer. For UK based customers there is still plenty of time to order items for Christmas with the last recommended posting date for deliveries in the UK not until Friday.
