Juan Diego Flórez

Juan Diego Flórez (Tenor)

Born: 13th January 1973, Lima, Peru

Nationality: Peruvian

Born in Lima in 1973, Juan Diego Flórez is considered the bel canto tenor of choice in major opera houses around the world: his expressive singing, effortless high notes and brilliant coloratura make him ideal for the operas of Rossini, Donizetti and Bellini. After making his official debut at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro in 1996, where he stood in for an indisposed colleague as Corradino in Matilde di Shabran, Flórez became an overnight success: his La Scala debut followed the same year, and in 2007 he became the first artist to be granted an encore at that theatre for 74 years, following an astonishing account of the top-C-studded aria 'Ah! mes amis' in Donizetti's La Fille du Régiment.

Since 2001 he has been an exclusive artist for Decca: his numerous awards include the Rossini d'Oro prize and a Gramophone nomination in 2009 for 'Bel Canto Spectacular'.
