Born in Örnsköldsvik, northern Sweden, in 1969, Persson studied in Stockholm and made her professional opera debut at the Rococo Confidencen theatre in Solna as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro (a role with which she would go on to make her Covent Garden debut in 2006, available on DVD and Blu-ray from Opus Arte). She spent her early career at the Royal Swedish Opera, where her repertoire included (Hansel und Gretel), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) and Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier); roles further afield include The Governess in The Turn of the Screw at Glyndebourne, the Countess in Strauss’s Capriccio at Garsington Opera, and the title-role in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea at La Scala (also available on DVD).

Persson’s discography includes Mahler’s Fourth Symphony with Iván Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra (‘Persson is angelic’ – The Sunday Times), a recital of Schubert, Sibelius and Grieg with Roger Vignoles on Wigmore Hall Live (‘The voice is light and lyric throughout but there's power too when required’ – International Record Review), and Fiordiligi on Yannick Nézet-Séguin’s Mozart opera series on Deutsche Grammophon and the DBD and Blu-ray of Nicholas Hytner's acclaimed staging of Cosi from Glyndebourne in 2006.
