Adrian Thompson

Adrian Thompson (Tenor)

Born in London in 1955, Thompson trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (where he would later become a professor of vocal studies). His repertoire spans four centuries, though he is particular in demand for twentieth-century music including Elgar’s Gerontius and the title-role in Britten’s Peter Grimes (plus the War Requiem, Snout A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Mr Upfold Albert Herring). Other key roles include Monostatos Die Zauberflöte, Mime Das Rheingold and Siegfried, the Schoolmaster in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen and Skuratov and Big Prisoner in his From the House of the Dead, the Scribe in Mussorgsky’s Khovanschina and Grigory in his Boris Godunov, and Old P’eng/Mountain-Dweller in Judith Weir’s Night at the Chinese Opera.

His discography includes Schumann and Schumann lieder with Graham Johnson on Hyperion, Vaughan Williams’s The Pilgrim’s Progress and Sir John in Love with Richard Hickox on Chandos, Britten’s Serenade, Les Illuminations and Nocturne with the Bournemouth Sinfonietta, and The Cunning Little Vixen from Glyndebourne on DVD and Blu-ray.
