Julian Prégardien

Julian Prégardien (Tenor)

Born: 12th July 1984, Frankfurt, Germany

Nationality: German

Julian Prégardien was born in Frankfurt in 1984 into a musical family: his father Christoph is recognised as one of the great Evangelists of his generation, and his cousin Julia Kleiter is a highly regarded soprano. He was a chorister at Limburg Cathedral and studied in Freiburg and Aix, returning to Frankfurt as an ensemble-member at Frankfurt Opera in 2009.

Like his father, he is particularly acclaimed in Bach and in lieder; his discography includes An die Geliebte (a recital of Beethoven, Weber, Strauss and Wolf on Myrios), the Evangelist in the St John Passion on ZigZag (‘Prégardien’s Evangelist is eloquence personified’ – The Times), and Father and Son (‘The two tenors of father and son - shared DNA, complementary tints and timbres - blend with grace’ - BBC Music Magazine).

In 2018 he signed with Alpha, making his debut on the label with Hans Zender’s arrangement of Schubert’s Winterreise.
