The Spanish pianist Javier Perianes was born in Huelva in 1978 and began his musical life as a clarinettist before studying the piano in his home town and in Seville and Madrid; he was mentored by Alicia de Larrocha and Josep Colom, and his early successes include first prize in the Jacinto e Inocencia Guerrero Foundation International Piano Competition and the International Piano Competition "Jaén Award".

Perianes released his first solo album (Mompou’s Música callada) on Harmonia Mundi in 2006, and has continued to record regularly for the label ever since; his discography includes Manuel Blasco de Nebra’s Piano Sonatas (‘his natural introversion, delicate touch and controlled tone are ideal for the still waters of Nebra's adagios’ – Gramophone), Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Münchner Philharmoniker and Pablo Heras-Casado, the Grieg Piano Concerto with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Sakari Oramo, and two contributions to the 2018 Debussy celebrations – the Cello Sonata with Jean-Guihen Queyras and the First Book of Préludes and Estampes.
