Blue Note

Blue Note

Founded in 1939 by Alfred Lion and Max Margulis, Blue Note derived its name from the 'blue notes' of blues and jazz music. Early catalogue releases were more traditional small-group jazz, but around the late 40s the label began to embrace the sounds of modern jazz.

Often associated with hard bop musicians, Blue Note has been home to the likes of Horace Silver, Grant Green, Wayne Shorter and Art Blakey. The iconic album covers during Blue Note's heyday were created by photographer and designer Reid Miles.
