Bartok's Violin Sonatas 1 and 2 remain difficult works. Not only for the performer but for the listener. The three movements of the First and two of the Second do not give up their secrets easily.
Slovakian violinist Milan Pala has all the required technique and skills necessary to bring off these performances. He is brilliantly assisted by Pavlik Records go to pianist Ladislav Fanzowitz.
It may be interesting to ponder on what the classic Italian violin makers would have made of Bartok. Listeners to this disc can hear the sounds that Milan Pala gets from his 2015 "Omayra" violin made by Bronislav and Jan Hus Bursik.
