New Publications, New Publications from Henle Verlag - December 2017

Henle VerlagThis month's batch of new publications from Henle Verlag includes piano music by Bartók and Brahms, as well as Ravel's Introduction and Allegro for Harp, Flute, Clarinet, and String Quartet.

Bartók: For Children Volume I

Written in 1908–1911, Bartók's collection of piano pieces in two volumes is based on Hungarian (volume I) and Slovakian (volume II) folk tunes respectively. Both are organised in ascending difficulty, from simple two-part pieces to Impressionistic miniatures. Bartók revised this collection in the 1940s, and it is this revised version that forms the main text of Henle's Urtext edition, while an appendix offers movements from the early version that diverge significantly from the revised ones.

Bartók: For Children Volume II

Volume II of Bartók's collection of piano pieces for children, based on Slovakian folk tunes.

Brahms: Waltz op. 39 no. 15

Original and simplified versions

The gently rocking melody of Johannes Brahms's Waltz op. 39 no. 15 is one of his most famous inspirations. This edition offers two versions of this popular miniature: the more demanding version in A-flat major is followed by Brahms’s own easier arrangement in A major.

Ravel: Introduction and Allegro for Harp, Flute, Clarinet, and String Quartet

Set of Parts

In June 1905, Ravel told a friend shortly before setting off on a long holiday: “I was terribly busy because of a piece for harp commissioned by the Érard company. I was able to finish it after a fashion, thanks to 8 days of dogged work and three sleepless nights”. But the piece itself shows nothing of the haste in which it was written. This is the set of instrumental parts: a separate study score is available below.
