Coming Soon, Stuart Skelton records Gerontius

Stuart Skelton records GerontiusWe hear that Australian heldentenor Stuart Skelton (recently in the news for his towering Peter Grimes at English National Opera) is about to record Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius, with Sarah Connolly as The Angel and Sir Andrew Davis conducting the BBC Symphony Orchestra & Chorus on Chandos Records.

A veteran Elgarian, Sir Andrew has recorded almost all of the composer's major works and conducted a celebrated filmed performance of Gerontius for the tercentenary of St Paul's Cathedral, so it will be fascinating to hear his latest thoughts. The recording takes place this week in advance of a live performance at the Barbican on Sunday; release-date tbc.
