On DVD and Blu-ray Dudamel conducts Verdi's Requiem and Simon Rattle conducts the London Symphony Orchestra in French orchestral music. On CD, Vladimir Ashkenazy's complete concerto recordings for Decca are released in a box set to celebrate the pianist's eightieth birthday, plus contemporary music featuring trumpeter Håkan Hardenberger and from Max Richter are also included in this week's highlights.
Tenor Ian Bostridge resumes his partnership with Julius Drake for their latest disc of Schubert Lieder. From Schubert’s joyful tribute to the natural world in Der Einsame to the desolation of Der Wanderer an den Mond, this delicately shaped programme explores the theme of longing in various guises.

Widor: Solo Organ Works
Joseph Nolan (the Cavaillé-Coll Organs of Saint-Sernin, Toulouse & Saint Francois De Sales, Lyon)
Joseph Nolan follows his recordings of Widor's Organ Symphonies with a collection of the composer’s other works for solo organ. The disc includes his Trois Nouvelles Pieces, Marche amèricaine, Marche Nuptiale, and Memento – a collection of transcriptions of works by J.S. Bach.

Infra is an expansion of a 25-minute piece Richter wrote for a collaboration with choreographer Wayne McGregor and visual artist Julian Opie. The original ballet was a response to the London bombings on 7/7; the work also refers to Winterreise, Schubert’s song cycle about a misunderstood wanderer whose heart is frozen in grief.

ORA'S third album for Harmonia Mundi pays tribute to the golden age of Thomas Tallis, setting several of his pieces alongside newly-commissioned works from composers such as Richard Allain, Frank Ferko, Alec Roth, Steven Stucky, and others.

Håkan Hardenberger has earned recognition as a pioneer of new music for the trumpet. Brett Dean's concerto Dramatis personae is named after the term used for the list of characters in a stage work, and casts the soloist in the role of the ''Hero''. If there is a hero in the concerto by Luca Francesconi, it is Miles Davis.

Recorded in January 2016, this programme of French music is book-ended by two works by Maurice Ravel: Le tombeau de Couperin and the second suite from Daphnis et Chloé. Also performed are two pieces by Dutilleux (Métaboles, and the violin concerto L’arbre des songes with Leonidas Kavakos), and Maurice Delage’s Quatre poèmes hindous with soprano Julia Bullock.
