The previous two Guild ‘Lost Transcription’ collections (GLCD5174 and 5181) have confirmed that a vast amount of light music was once recorded that was never intended to be purchased by the public to add to their private collections. It was offered to radio stations around the world, but some other uses included educational projects and the entertainment of the armed forces. Percy Faith, Mantovani and Sidney Torch were among those very active in this specialised niche of the music business, and on this occasion Mantovani and David Rose provide the opening and closing segments of the collection. In-between we hear Peter Yorke, Van Phillips, Al Sack, Vivian Dunn and the Royal Marines Orchestra, Eric Robinson, Charles Shadwell, Robert Farnon and his Canadian Army Orchestra and several other once famous ‘names’ that illustrate the wide repertoire covered in this largely unknown reservoir of enjoyable music.
