Inspired by Benjamin Britten and WH Auden’s Night Mail, Track to Track: The Athlon celebrates the journey of the Olympic Javelin Train taking passengers from St. Pancras Station to Stratford and back during the Olympics. Original motifs for the work have been prepared by children working in LCO’s and Barnardo’s Music Junction partnership. Track to Track: The Athlon, composed for ensemble and string orchestra, is set to a text by poet Glyn Maxwell and can be heard by train commuters as much as audiences in the concert hall.
