This release pays tribute to the distinguished cellist Erling Blöndal Bengtsson who died on 6th June 2013 at the age of 81. Using tapes from Icelandic Radio and issued for the first time, Bengtsson plays Walton’s cello concerto, which was in fact written for Bengtsson’s mentor Piatigorsky. Also included is Khachaturian’s cello concerto. Both recordings add to his extensive discography.
