Jordan Hunt says ... Siren for solo trumpet is a phantom image of something lost, a call to the ocean; standing on the edge of a cliff, the strained and intense call of mourning is answered by an ethereal voice from the sea; an otherworldly response, harking back to Ellen's fragile call in Britten's Peter Grimes, embodied by the voice of a siren, calling "Peter". The piece is dedicated to my late friend Peter Alexander. In partnership with London Sinfonietta we continue our Sinfonietta Shorts series, a collection of bite-sized pieces of new music from today's leading composers; commissioned and premiered by the principal players of the London Sinfonietta.
