- This new recording presents the rarely played Sonatas for 2 Violins by Antonio Vivaldi, catalogued as RV 70, 71, 68 and 77, under the title Sonatas with or without bass.
- The palette of colours and expressive modalities used by Vivaldi in these sonatas is truly impressive: arpeggios, double strings, passages in the high register, extremely complex articulations that require a superfine bow technique and a flourishing cantabile of genius simplicity and expression.
- Also included is a Sonata or Duet (Duetto) for two violins by Andrea Zani (1696-1759), divided into four movements and a canon (Canone). Zani was a well known composer who loved Vivaldi's writing and style, so much so that it has come to be assumed that Zani spent a period of study under the guidance of the Venetian master.
- Played by two passionate Italian violinists: Alessandro Ciccolini and Domenico Scicchitano, both specialized in Baroque repertoire and active in such prestigious groups as Il Giardino Armonico, Il Complesso Barocco (Alan Curtis) and others.
