The Swiss pianist, composer and arranger George Gruntz leads the acclaimed NDR Big Band on arguably his most exciting project to date - the music of John Coltrane arranged for big band, and specifically inspired by the great saxophonist's Village Vanguard Years (1961 -1962).
Conducted by Gruntz and driven by the powerful American drummer Tom Rainey, the 17-piece band deliver a thoroughly fresh and modern sound while at the same time retaining that all-important tradition of big bands - swing! Included among the 11 tracks are "Impressions," "Blue Trane", "Giant Steps" and "My Favorite Things".

Personnel: George Gruntz (conductor and arranger) with the NDR Big Band feat.
