On 'European Tales' Cojazz are joined by fellow Swiss veteran, Bruno Spoerri on tenor, baritone and soprano saxophones, who is best known by jazz-rock aficionados as the saxophonist and electronics wizard in the 70's group, J.R.E (Jazz-Rock Experience).
Spoerri adheres himself here to the Cojazz post-bop idiom in a selection of fine European compositions that act as a kind of counter-balance to the more widely known American standards that dominate so much of jazz. The one concession to this all-European theme is the inclusion of "Doe Eyes" by American bassist Red Mitchell. Because Red recorded the original 1954 version in Stockholm with baritone saxophonist Lars Gullin, the group decided that was qualification enough for its inclusion!

Veterans of the 1960's Swiss jazz scene, Cojazz was formed in 1988 by musicians (Andy Scherrer - piano, Isla Eckinger - bass, Peter Schmidlin - drums) whose individual rsums read like a Leonard Feather Encyclopedia of Jazz! Gary Burton, Dexter Gordon, Abdullah Ibrahim, Ben Webster, Don Byas, Mal Waldron, Chet Baker, Enrico Rava, and Lee Konitz are just a few of the international names who have called upon their services.
