Based on first editions and the autographs, Jean-François Monnard presents L’Heure espagnole in a meticulous Urtext that corrects in detail all previous shortcomings, and, especially in the vocal parts, resolves the discrepancies between the piano vocal score published in 1908 and the full score published three years later. The appendix to the full score and piano vocal score includes a new German/English prose translation of the libretto.

Bärenreiter | Vocal Score

In Rameau's operatic oeuvre, Io is certainly the work shrouded in the most mystery. Because of its incompleteness, it was long regarded as Rameau's last work, but there is much to suggest that the composition must have been written between 1740 and 1745. The introduction to this edition examines the references regarding the dating as well as various hypotheses about performance possibilities and librettists.

Bach’s Magnificat BWV 243 was composed in its first form in E flat, right at the beginning of Bach’s period in Leipzig, possibly for the Visitation of Mary on July 2, 1723. Only in the 1730s did Bach arrange the Magnificat into the well-known version in D; the orchestration was slightly altered, particularly improving the considerable practical performance problems in the first version. This critical Carus edition by Bach expert Dr. Ulrich Leisinger contains the version of the Magnificat in D, based on Bach’s autograph score.

Bärenreiter | Full Score

This is the first "Dido" edition based on the Tatton Park manuscript as the main source. It was produced during the second half of the 18th century by Philip Hayes, one of England's most prominent musicians. He was known in musicology for his meticulous copies of Purcell's music, often from the autograph manuscripts. The Bodleian and Wakayama manuscripts are presented in a new light and their role in this edition has been reassessed accordingly.

These ten arrangements are a welcome addition to Rachmaninoff’s small but significant output of original works for cello and piano. Editor Klaus Simon comments that Rachmaninoff’s songs are some of the most beautiful in the whole repertoire and especially suitable for cello. The instrument's sound is so flexible and beautiful for melody, and with its warm sound and potential for intense vibrato and tasteful portamenti it is ideally suited to the task.

Henle Verlag | Double Bass & Piano

Thanks to its skilful combination of Romantic melody and sparkling virtuosity, Koussevitzky’s Double Bass Concerto, Op. 3 has been one of the most popular works of its genre since its Moscow premiere in 1905. No wonder, for the virtuoso double bass player Koussevitzky had composed it for his very own instrument. As with all double bass concertos published by Henle, this edition also contains the piano reduction by Christoph Sobanski in two keys (E minor and F sharp minor) for performance with solo or orchestral tuning.

Orchestral & Chamber

Robert Schumann wrote the D minor Symphony in 1841. Despite its successful world premiere at the Leipzig Gewandhaus on 4 December 1841, this first version remained unpublished during the composer's lifetime. It took the great Johannes Brahms himself to recognize its qualities and commit himself actively and successfully to a renewed performance in 1889.

New Urtext editions of the well-known Daphnis Suites, both edited by Ravel expert Jean-François Monnard. Ravel extracted two suites, two Fragements Symphoniques: the work now known as the First Suite was published before the first performance of the ballet. It served as a test for the composer, who wanted to present the just orchestrated pages in concert. The large format of the conducting score as well as the orchestral parts allow good readability and support the clarity and transparency of the modern notation.

Suite No. 2 is also available.

Henle Verlag | String Quartet Parts

The music world associates Verdi’s name so obviously with his operatic output that his contributions to other genres can easily be overlooked. His only chamber work owes its existence to an enforced break in Naples in spring 1873, when opera rehearsals had had to be postponed. This Henle Urtext edition is based on the Italian first edition, though important secondary sources such as the autograph score and the French first edition have also been consulted.

A study score is also available.
