Awards, Sheet Music Publications of the Year - Finalists 2023

awards logoIn anticipation of our upcoming Presto Music Awards, we have released our shortlist of sheet music publications which are all in contention for an award. We have chosen three products for each category, and all publications have been published at some point this year. Our five categories are: New Keyboard Publication of the Year, Choral Publication of the Year, Deluxe Edition of the Year, Education Publication of the Year, and Film & Musicals Publication of the Year. Find our finalists below, and be sure to check out the finalists from the jazz, books and classical departments - the winners in these categories will also be revealed on Thursday 7th December.

New Keyboard Publication of the Year

New interesting findings regarding interpretation, a compelling Foreword and insightful notes on Viennese piano playing in Beethoven’s time as well as a detailed Critical Commentary offer an abundance of information and a new perspective on Beethoven’s bagatelle œuvre.

Edition Peters | Edited by Daniel Grimwood

Henselt’s music was well-known in his time, and in the repertoire of the greatest virtuosos of the 19th century. This new Edition Peters Urtext edition is edited by Daniel Grimwood, one of the composer’s most highly regarded interpreters. This is the only available modern Urtext edition of these important piano works.

Deluxe Edition of the Year

This facsimile full score edition of Gustav Holst’s The Planets, Op. 32 edited by Imogen Holst and Colin Matthews, is presented as a clothbound, full-colour, hardback edition with dustjacket. With a limited number available, this is a true collector’s edition. The textual collation lists all the differences between the manuscript and the printed score.

Faber Music | Full Score

Picture a Day Like This is the fourth collaboration between George Benjamin and Martin Crimp, whose acclaimed partnership produced Written on Skin, Lessons in Love and Violence, and Into the Little Hill. The opera – “a kind of Alice in Wonderland, but for adults”, says Crimp – lasts just over an hour and is cast in seven scenes. This limited edition of the full score is one of only one hundred and fifty, presented in a cloth-bound hard cover.
