Two contrasting songs from Hugh Roberton's "Songs of the Isles" arranged for orchestra to give a taste of the Scottish Isles. The Mingulay Boat Song was written in the 1930s. The melody is from a traditional Gaelic tune, probably titled "Lochaber". The tune was part of an old Gaelic song, "Oran na Comhachaig" from Brae Lochaber. Top of the Morning is a sheep-shearing song, the first part of which is again from a Gaelic tune. Hugh Roberton wrote the words and the remainder of the tune and fashioned it into this song.
A PACK includes a full score, string parts 4/4/3/4/2 and all wind, brass and percussion parts.
